So often, we as sales professionals are in our heads thinking about what to say next. The problem is that when we do that we are not actively listening to what our prospects are telling us. You may miss out on a need or a buying signal if you’re not paying attention. Be genuinely curious about your prospect’s life and challenges. Your genuine curiosity takes a sales conversation from what feels like a job interview to an authentically collaborative process.

It’s OK if you don’t know what to say next. Just be curious ✨

When I set out to capture the sales process I used

When I set out to capture the sales process I used that brought me the most success in my career, I wrote down eight steps. I was told it would be catchier if I could come up with some kind of word that the first letter of each step made. You can see here the eight-letter words I tried before coming up with the word “inspired.” It’s crazy to think these notes are over a year old and the book they inspired is nearly finished.

I can’t wait to share the full sales process with you soon. Until then keep writing down your thoughts and scribbling down your ideas. You never know where it may lead.

unfortunately, professional selling sometimes comes with some negative connotations. Here’s how I get out of my own head and avoid feeling icky when I sell:

➡️ make a list of common characteristics and struggles of your ideal client

➡️ make another list of specific ways your product or service addresses your idealclient’s struggles

➡️ think about specific examples you know of ways your product or service has improved the lives of your clients

If you truly believe in your product or service and you know you’re bringing meaningful solutions to clients, you’re providing value and making a difference. You’ll never need to feel icky about that. ❤️

In sales, it’s easy to get stuck in your own brain thinking about what to say next. When that happens to you ask a question to give yourself time to regroup. Here are some useful questions to help yourself get out of your own head:

➡️ Can you tell me more about that?

➡️ What happened as a result?

➡️ Were you pleased with that outcome?

The caveat to asking questions is that you MUST listen to your prospects responses. Practice, active listening, have some questions ready to go in case you need them, and lead the sales conversation with confidence 💪

The price is the elephant in the room from the minute your prospect agrees to meet with you. If you don’t communicate Price early, they will be distracted the entire meeting. Here are my three tips when discussing price with a prospect:

➡️ Discuss the price of your product/service early in the meeting

➡️ Give a price range dependent upon needs

➡️ Tell a customer success story

Securing referrals is statistically the most effective tool in growing your business. In addition to providing warm leads to pre-qualified prospects, referrals also act to reinforce your current customer relationships. Are you asking your customers for referrals? If the answer is yes, are you doing it in a way that guarantees success?

➡️ Earn it. Don’t ask for referrals too soon

➡️ Timing is everything. Ask for a referral after your customer experiences a win

➡️ Be specific. Ask if they know the exact type of customer you would like to meet.

it’s more important to be fully present and in the right mindset for your sales meetings then it is to cram too many meetings into your day.

Conducting sales meetings takes full concentration. Allow yourself enough time between meetings to prepare your brain. Take a few deep breaths, get to your meeting location early, and take the time to feel like you are in control.

Don’t sacrifice quality meetings just because you want to appear busy.
